SYSTEMS / THE SLOT SYSTEM

Read the sheet.
Understand the character.

Ten ability slots are the heart of the loadout—but they are not the whole character. Learn to read each layer without mixing identity, abilities, and equipment.

The ten-slot field diagram

SELECT A POSITION TO EXPLORE IT

Strength

Strength has one red stat ability slot, associated with Fire and the Fighter role. Single-target physical damage. A matching color does not waive an ability’s class, path, or other access restrictions.

Structural example, not a validated build: the ten positions describe where slotted abilities belong. Selecting a slot here does not equip an ability or calculate a character’s legality.

Documented character configuration

Jubilee: four choices, one character

Body: Human / Soul: Phoenix Oversoul
Cyber Icon / Streamer

Jubilee’s Human Body remains Human while her Phoenix Soul contributes its Red/Gold compatibility. Cyber Icon defines her audience-driven Class, and Streamer her selected path. A deck can be equipment without turning her into a Card Mage. This is an identity example, not a fully populated or legality-validated combat build.

Sourcebook structural example

A non-Angel Body with an Angel Soul

Keep the Body and its own color. Choose Cherub for Gold, Hallowed for Blue, or Seraphim for Green Soul compatibility. Record one chosen ability in the Soul slot. The Soul does not replace the physical Body or equip every Angel ability.

Races v003 p.54.
Illustrative compatibility example

One dual-color slot, one ability

A Phoenix Soul’s Red/Gold field offers a choice of compatible color, not capacity for a Red and a Gold ability at once. A White slot rejects an active ability; a Clear slot allows active or passive compatibility. These structural checks do not establish that an ability’s separate access requirements are met.

Systems v004 pp.7–8; Races v003 pp.36,45.
Documented progression example

Dread: two different Soul Sync starts

Tiger’s Roar starts at Major (level 3) from two qualifying benefits; Shark Skin starts at Moderate (level 2) from one. Neither can exceed Mythical (level 7). This changes starting ranks, not the ten-slot count.

Systems v004 p.13.

Four layers. Not one pile of powers.

01 / LOADOUT

10 ability positions

Body, Soul, Class, Specialization, plus six Stat slots. A dual-color slot accepts either permitted color, but still holds only one ability.

02 / ALWAYS PART OF YOU

2 permanent Innates

One from Body and one from Class. These are free permanent Innates, outside the ten-slot loadout—not three Innates, and not ten more slots.

03 / CLASS TOOLKIT

A level-gated class pool

Class-pool abilities are slot-free and unlock with level. They are a different category from abilities that must be equipped into the slotted loadout.

04 / EQUIPMENT

Weapon & Flair

Two equipment display positions. Showing them alongside the loadout does not turn the ten ability slots into twelve ability slots.

Try a rule, not a full build

The color compatibility check

Change the slot and ability below. This tests only the color/type rule—not Class, path, or ability access.

Does not fit this slot. White is passive-only. Try a different slot or ability type/color.
White and Clear are not interchangeable. White accepts a Passive. Clear accepts either an Active or a Passive. Neither means “equip multiple abilities here.”

All ten positions

Strength

Strength has one red stat ability slot, associated with Fire and the Fighter role. Single-target physical damage. A matching color does not waive an ability’s class, path, or other access restrictions.

Agility

Agility has one green stat ability slot, associated with Wind and the Courier role. Movement, evasion, and positioning. A matching color does not waive an ability’s class, path, or other access restrictions.

Intelligence

Intelligence has one blue stat ability slot, associated with Water and the Mage role. Magic, area effects, and control. A matching color does not waive an ability’s class, path, or other access restrictions.

Stamina

Stamina has one purple stat ability slot, associated with Earth and the Tank role. Defense, endurance, and protection. A matching color does not waive an ability’s class, path, or other access restrictions.

Charisma

Charisma has one gold stat ability slot, associated with Sun and the Supporter role. Healing, buffs, and auras. A matching color does not waive an ability’s class, path, or other access restrictions.

Dexterity

Dexterity has one black stat ability slot, associated with Void and the Rogue role. Stealth, critical hits, and disruption. A matching color does not waive an ability’s class, path, or other access restrictions.

Body

Your chosen physical race form contributes one core ability slot. Its color belongs to the Body, not the separately selected Soul. A free permanent Body Innate is a separate choice, not another slot.

Soul

Choose a Race Soul variant or an Oversoul independently of Body. It contributes one core ability slot. A dual-color Soul accepts either listed color while holding just one ability. A numbered Unique Soul is not this field.

Class

Your profession contributes one core ability slot and one permanent Class Innate. Its slot-free, level-gated class progression pool is separate from the slotted ability.

Specialization

Your specialization refines how the Class contributes to a team and contributes one core slot. Selected-path access belongs to the path actually chosen, not every path listed for the Class.
