Story context & connections · contains spoilers
El Melón can read thoughts and project their own into another mind. A conversation can take place without anyone speaking aloud, and an untrained Melón may broadcast a thought without meaning to share it.
Telepathy is the type's distinctive gift. Melones can also manifest photosynthesis and Stat Sight, traits they share with other Plant Souls. Those common abilities can develop alongside their mental communication rather than replacing it.
For Jeff, the discovery begins with a voice he thinks is only in his head. For Melanie, it begins when a stranger laughs at a joke she has not said aloud. Ruben gets a more public introduction when his private commentary reaches the people around him. Each has to learn that a thought can become a conversation.
