THE MOMENT
"You've just found out your girlfriend's mom is the worst supervillain in the world," Gale smiled at Spencer. She kidnapped the lean young man from a college campus and brought him to her forest to have a private chat. "Still up for joining the family?" Gale asked.
"I love Cadence, not you," Spencer replied. He sat up straighter atop the large tree stump she placed him on.
"Ouch," Gale pouted as if her feelings were hurt. "You're
not even planning to visit me," she said. At that exact moment, Spencer was happy with the realization that they didn't have to visit Gale all that often. Then, he wondered if she read his mind.
"I did read your mind," Gale said with a smile. "It's a little known fact about me; I can know everything that happens on this Earth."
"You seemed surprised that Cadence had a boyfriend," Spencer said. Gale nodded.
"Omniscience really isn't everything it's cracked up to be. Knowing everything is so boring; it's still nice to be surprised sometimes. I always give Cadence her own privacy and don't check on her unless I'm worried about something."
"Whoa...a Super that knows everything..." Spencer was trying to get over his awe when Gale shook her head.
"Oh, no. I'm not a Super. I mean, I am, but that's not my super power. I know everything because I'm a Unique Soul. #37, El Mundo. And that's why we're having this chat," Gale said.
"My daughter is Unique Soul #32, El Músico, and you are Unique Soul #34, El Soldado. If you're going to get serious about my daughter you need to understand what all that means."
"I'm a Unique Soul? Do I have powers to know everything like you? Does Cadence?"
"All the things you thought were superpower gifts from your glasses like your fighting skills and regeneration are your Unique abilities. Cadence has different abilities but that's for her to share with you.
"Okay," Spencer nodded. "I want to learn whatever I need to."
"Good. Let's start at the beginning. The first, most important thing you need to learn about the universe is that alternate Earths exist. But you, Cadence, and I don't exist on any other Earth; that's the unique part of Unique Souls."
