THE MOMENT

"It's not a permanent decision," Orion smiled at Nash to put him at ease. The Superhuman young man was eager to do something once he learned he had the ability to control fire, and after some research, he made an appointment with Chroma Corp., and now he was sitting in Orion's office a month later. He wanted to talk to an executive, and there was a wait. The entire visit had left Nash at ease, and he felt like he made the right move to talk to someone higher up in the chain. "If you start as an 'Anti-Hero', you can join the Shadow Enclave and try out being a Villain first and stick with it if you like it, or switch teams and give the Hero's League a shot. They follow a seasonal schedule so you can alternate between seasons if you prefer," he added.

"A lot of newcomers take that approach," Orion said. "The Shadow Enclave is a bit more lenient with mistakes, though you'll still have to stick to the rules of engagement that apply to both sides. There's no leniency with those; no one has ever broken them more than once," he said. He had a stern, but friendly expression. His brilliant sapphire eyes made it clear he was serious about his warning, but still a customer service employee dealing with a valued client.

"Why not?" Nash asked. Orion had been an open, friendly book, and he was so comfortable that the question popped out before Nash thought about it. They'd already gone over the most important ones, and he planned to research the rules more thoroughly once he chose a side.

"It's a one-strike, and you're out kind of thing," Orion nodded. "The Shadow Enclave and Hero's League are full of super-powered people who just want to have fun. However, since such unpredictable super-powers are involved, it's up to the participants to be extra careful. We cannot, and do not allow anyone to make more than one mistake. A single offense is enough to get you ejected from the organization and have your powers stripped."

"But.. what happens if Chroma Corp. didn't give me my powers?" Nash asked.

"The same thing," Orion nodded. "The origin doesn't matter; we have the ability to remove your powers, and we will if you break the rules. Don't worry though," he smiled. "You're just starting out. Whichever faction you join, they'll keep an eye on you. And, you'll have to work your way up to a point where you can even make those mistakes. You'll get enough training to learn the ins and outs," he said.
