THE MOMENT

“What do you mean I'm supposed to get the *other* person to drink it?” Geo asked with a puzzled expression. He knew he was lacking in his mental faculties and made up for it by being earnest. He'd entered the shop during a small rush and politely waited for it to die down before finally approaching the clerk at the counter. He used the time to wander around the quaint space, admiring the rainbow of jars on the wall.

When he noticed she was free, he took the half-bottle of love potion to her and explained the situation. She'd interrupted him with a question that he had no idea about. And then, she had another question for him.

“Wait a second,” she smiled warmly. Her nametag read: Milly. “Please elaborate,” she gestured at the half-empty bottle. “What do you mean ‘every day’?”

“Well, you said it was strong…,” he shrugged. “I don't need them to fall in love with me, just tolerate me with more respect. I'm not trying to control anyone; I just don't want to be ignored so coldly. So, I took a spoonful any time I was going to be near them.”

“I see,” Milly nodded with a warm smile. “Well, there was a lot you were doing wrong, but it worked out,” she said.

“I apologize for not explaining it clearer, we assume most people know how potions work.” She placed her hand on the small 8oz bottle. “This entire thing is meant to be a single serving. Love potions are intended to be given to the person you want to force to love you; most people choose a covert manner.”

“Oh no, I couldn't do that,” Geo shook his head. “Thank you for making it all clear. I think this isn't for me after all,” he nodded, ready to turn and leave.

“There is another option,” Milly smiled at him. “I remember you came in determined to find a love potion, but after talking to you, I see you have a different goal. Have you considered Charisma potions? You can drink those yourself.”
