THE MOMENT
"What? What do you mean? Yeah, I'm picking this. What's wrong with it?" Alis smiled and nodded her head with the question. She was questing with Pavette, a student from another team, and they didn't know each other too well just yet. “It's gear, like the reward you got.” “It just feels like a weird pick,” Pavette shrugged. “I chose a magical bullet skill because I'm a Spellslinger. You're a Ninja, and you chose a kitchen knife?” She looked at Alis with a confused expression. “Like, not even one with any real damage. Okay, I understand wanting a magic knife that can cut anything, but what do you plan to do with a magic knife that's so dull it can't cut anything?”
“Who says I'm going to cut anything with it?” Alis asked. Pavette narrowed? her eyes through the lenses bolted onto her face.
“It's a knife,” she answered. “That's all it does.”
“Nope,” Alis smiled and shook her head. “It’s a magic knife.”
“A lot of good that’s going to do if you can’t cut anything,” Pavette replied.
“Yeah, it really is,” Alis laughed. She’d put the knife away as soon as she got it, not realizing how perceptive Pavette was. But, Alis had put it away too fast for her to get the full picture. She drew it out and showed it to Pavette. The dull, chipped blade ignited with a gentle orange flame.
“Ohhhhh,” Pavette giggled with Alis. “It’s a magic knife. Wait, you can cast Spells from weapons? I'm a Princess too, can I do that?”
“I can, because of Ninja,” Alis shook her head. “Spellslingers just shoot spells,” she smiled. “Like savages.”
“It sounds like you're calling me a savage Princess, and I'm going to take that as a compliment.” Pavette smiled. The two had been walking through a moderately busy downtown while talking. After they completed one quest, they were on their way to another Princess only quest. The conversation had more or less finished and they were approaching the next stop. But, Pavette had one final grievance to utter.
“I still don't get why it couldn't be a sharp magic knife.”
