THE MOMENT
"They left shortly after the cameras cut out...," Ellis stopped the video that had gone black already. He stood in Gaia's living room, which looked more like a large open-air gazebo built into the house than a proper interior. "...I have no clues about their identity." The woman herself stood with an understanding nod once the video was off.
"Majesty was right to send you to me, I do know them," she said. "Unfortunately, there is quite a bit more at play here and I can't reveal the twins' parents to you; not yet at any rate," she added.
"So you're just going to let those little terrors go unpunished?!" Ellis asked.
"You ARE a Supervillain, Ellis," Gaia giggled. "What difference does it make if they stop you or it's your hero counterpart?"
"The difference is I didn't set it up for THEM to destroy it! Now I have nothing to entertain John! They ruined a perfectly nice scheme; it was our nemesisversary...," he said.
"I won't tell you anything about the twins; but, I will help you set up a new scheme if you like," Gaia replied.
"Why are they so special?" John asked.
"It's not hyperbole when I say the twins that destroyed your lair are going to determine the future of the multiverse," Gaia said. Ellis tilted his head at her.
"Is it in danger?" he asked.
"Not at all," Gaia shook her head. "Sharp Development has done a wonderful job of keeping everything running smoothly. There is no danger; but, the decisions those girls make in the next couple of months will affect everything. I feel they're allowed a little leeway."
"Sure...," Ellis nodded. "But, are they really going to make good decisions if you're letting them behave like brats without correcting them?" Gaia smiled at him and shook her head.
"You're a Supervillain," she repeated. "They're actually very good kids, they wanted to do something 'heroic'," she said.
"Heroic?" Ellis chuckled. "John is never as destructive as they were."
"That's because your hero is your best friend," Gaia giggled, and nodded. "But, yes, they were being very heroic, I think."
"How can you say that? They ruined everything!" Ellis said.
"Again, it has to be said...," Gaia used a bored tone as she repeated the key detail he was missing. "You are a Supervillain...," she said. "And, well, they were heroic enough to leave you alive."
