THE MOMENT
"We're going to go with Bonzo," Claire sounded apologetic as she relayed the info to Muldrid the Wizard.
"But-," the older man was in a rough spot financially. "What's he got that I haven't?" He looked over at the 'Stage Magician'. It was just an audition with no kids around, so Muldrid showed up in his fanciest robes to impress the parents. Bonzo the clown, however, arrived at the appointment dressed like a complete fool. It was a fair question, all things considered. He was more interested in the answer than arguing their decision, and he couldn't see any value in hiring a clown over a wizard.
"Mr. Muldrid..," Claire smiled with a gentle shake of her head. "My son is turning 5. While we appreciate your professional appearance, there is something to be said for playing to your audience."
"I can put on makeup! I can act like a buffoon!" Fortunately, Muldrid caught his own words and shook his head as if to dismiss any interjections they were about to make. "And better yet, I KNOW REAL MAGIC!"
"That was factored into our decision as well," Claire nodded.
"And? He can't do magic!"
"That was the deciding factor," Claire nodded with an amused smile.
"What? How?"
"Are you sure you're cut out for this field?" Clair asked. "As I said just moments ago, several minutes ago when you arrived, and in the initial Ad we posted. My son is turning 5. The differences between stage magic and real magic are lost on him and the other 5-year-old guests. And, honestly, you might have better luck if you weren't charging high prices for 'real magic'."
