THE MOMENT

"Well, on paper, your application seems flawless," Minerva, the executive, smiled at Kurt. "But, tell me more about you? This feels like quite a niche business for Fae to break into, not that we're discouraging it," she smiled. "What inspired this direction?"

Kurt was hesitant at first. But, Chroma Corp. had a very positive reputation in the community. They weren't a bank, and he wasn't applying for a traditional business loan. It was a grant created to encourage small businesses. He would try a regular bank if he was turned down here, but he had to make an honest attempt.

"I'm not sure if there's a real name for what I can do...," he nodded. "I call myself a 'reverse shapeshifter'. I have the power to transform the appearance of others instead of myself," he said. "Over the years, I've had a lot of people coming to me to get turned into their 'ideal selves'," he added.

"That's interesting," Minerva nodded with a mildly confused expression. She glanced down at his file. "And... that's what inspired you to create this business...?" she asked. Kurt was simultaneously relieved and amused. There was no friction about not believing him. She still seemed intent on carrying on the meeting, and he understood her confusion.

"Well, my abilities kind of came with their own learning curve," he chucked. "Hours or days later, after I transformed someone, they'd come back insisting I made a mistake or misunderstood what they asked for. It happened no matter how much I clarified things with them, eventually, I had to limit my 'fixes' to just one per person. I started out with a limit of five, and that got pared down fast," he chuckled.

"And this business is your solution?" Minerva giggled with a broad smile. "I love where your head's at,' she gave a deliberate nod. "I see no reason why Chroma Corp. shouldn't invest in you and your idea," she said.

"Really! Thank you!!" Kurt managed to keep himself seated, but it was a fight.

"Of course," she said. "Chroma Corp. strives to leave a positive mark on culture, and your idea of a 'Wellness Gym' with meditation and mindfulness classes is certainly a step on that path. Honestly, I'm rather disappointed that our own company didn't think of it first. If your business performs as well as I expect, we'd like turn your idea into a chain. But, we can discuss all that once things are up and running," she said.

"Yeah, you know, thought it was a good idea," Kurt chuckled. "After realizing no one has any idea what their 'ideal self' is, I thought it'd be faster to try and answer that question first rather than hoping to get it right with external changes."
