THE MOMENT
"Oh, you're Vol-Cannons' wife? It's a pleasure," Glory Rose smiled at the middle-aged woman. "As the spouse of a registered Super, you're entitled to a 20% discount," she added. Glory Rose owned a diner that served as an effective neutral territory for Super Heroes & Villains alike, and it was Noella's first visit.
She stopped in purely by chance as she was learning to navigate the downtown area of the city. She hesitated as soon as she walked in and noted the abundance of capes and masks. Fortunately, a passing waitress who turned out to be Glory, caught her before she turned around to leave. She welcomed Noella, and it wasn't long before Noella revealed she was new to the area and why. In a short few minutes, Glory had made Noella feel completely at home and comfortable enough in her presence to overshare.
"Why, thank you," Noella smiled. "I might have to abuse that for a bit. I wish I could say being his wife was a pleasure...," she giggled, but couldn't hide the kernel of truth in her joke from Glory.
"Everything okay, hon? Moving at all is tough, much less to a whole new city. And, the word around town is Vol-Cannon's brand new to the league, so I'm guessing that career change at the same time isn't helping much either," she smiled.
"It's fine...," Noella sighed to herself. "I'm not 'unhappy' or anything.. just kind of worn out, you know? Like you said, it's a lot. Let's take why I'm here for example. Right now, in our home, there's a 'Doomsday Weapon' in our living room! I don't know what it does other than keep me awake all night with its CONSTANT beeping. Which, you would think I couldn't hear down the hall behind a closed door and wearing ear plugs; but it's SO loud. And the worst part is, it's blocking the kitchen! I haven't been able to get to the fridge for two days, so now I have to spend money eating out for every meal, until the movers can get the Doomsday weapon to his lair. Thank goodness being a Villain pays so well. I'm complaining about spending the money as much as I am complaining about HAVING TO," she sighed and closed her eyes.
"I'm sorry..," Noella shook her head. But Glory patted her hand, and she opened her eyes again to see the woman smiling.
"Don't apologize to me, hon. It sounds like you needed a bit of a rant. But, it's a good thing you're here. The Shadow Enclave offers a ton of services that most villains don't get around to exploring right away. And, since Vol-Cannon is so new, he might not know. I can arrange for that Doomsday weapon to be moved to his lair by the time you finish your lunch," Glory said.
"You can?" Noella perked up right away.
"Sure," Glory nodded. "The Shadow Enclave and the Hero's League also have quest boards for their members to encourage cooperation within each team. It's as simple as putting up a task, like say, 'moving a doomsday machine', then waiting for a response. I'll take care of the whole thing for you this time, and you'll learn the system as we go," she said.
"Oh wait," Noella held up a hand as she brought out her node. "I should really check with him first. I don't want to move his stuff around without permission...," she giggled as she started to text her husband. "...it might go off."
