THE MOMENT

"Five minutes, Mr. Ozone," the buxom blonde woman with blue eyes smiled at her boss. She interrupted a conversation, but that was her job. She and her employer were in the middle of an important meeting that had already dragged on. And, Ozone took advantage of the subject change.

"There you go, Mr. President," the rotund, green-haired man chuckled. "The deadline is in five minutes. Now, I've revealed myself to you specifically to give you a chance. At the moment, you're the only country that hasn't complied with my rules, and I'd really appreciate it if you gave it another think," he said.

"But, we have!" The President pushed back, but Ozone shook his head.

"Any changes in the last few seconds, Andie?" Ozone asked. The blonde shook her head.

"He thinks we don't know about the secret stockpile," she giggled, then moved to leave the office. At the moment, they were the only three in the room. Ozone had partially made his case by catching the President alone and keeping it that way. The President had a brief hope that security would run in as soon as she opened the door; but, she stepped through it and closed it again without issue. Whoever they were, there was a lot more at play here than he thought.

"Where'd she go?" The president asked without addressing the secret cache of nuclear arms.

"Since we're getting close to the end here, I guess I realize that you're just too stubborn," Ozone shrugged. "She went to go gather a special congratulatory treat," he said.

"Called your bluff, huh?" The President grinned. It was obvious the mystery villain wasn't going to destroy humanity when he himself was human. The President couldn't believe how gullible the rest of the world's leaders were.

"You would've, if I were bluffing," Ozone chuckled and stood. "Anyway, I'll ask one more time. You're the last holdout, and the future of this planet is 100% on your shoulders. You have the final say; will you disarm?"

"We already have," the President replied with a practiced lie. He may have taken credit for calling the bluff, but he wasn't going to make an amateurish mistake by admitting to anything.

"Fair enough. Well, Mr. President, it was an honor to have met you," Ozone replied.

"So, how soon will you be destroying humanity?" the President asked with a playful grin.

"Any second now," Ozone nodded. "Just waiting on Andie," he said. They endured an uncomfortable silence for about a minute until the blonde returned. She walked through the door first, followed by a woman holding a child.

"Lorraine?? What are you doing here?" The President was surprised to see his wife and child walk into his office, and still no sign of security.

"I don't know...," the First Lady shook her head with a concerned expression. "This woman said you had something you wanted to apologize to me for."

"What?" The president looked at Andie first. She smiled, and her bright blue eyes looked toward Ozone. "What is this about?" he asked. But, he was distracted by a bright flash in the distance. Then, the ground trembled.

"I'm not completely heartless," Ozone shrugged as Andie opened a tall black portal behind him. She went in first, then he stepped backward into it. "I'm also not from this Earth, so destroying it is only a mild inconvenience to me." The portal started to close, and he gave the President a final explanation of his kindness. "You're the one who made this decision, but even then, I won't hold it against you. A man should be with his family at the end."
