THE MOMENT

It was surprisingly dead for a college party. The music was playing, and Joel let himself in, but the scene was unusual. At least, Joel thought it was unusual; he hadn't been to a lot of parties. Still, he imagined them to be more lively than half a dozen bodies laying on the couches and floor in various altered states.

"Did I get here late?" he wondered. It was only 1 a.m., and he thought for sure the party would be rocking. Suddenly, he noticed movement. A woman wearing a black robe with elegant gold detailing emerged from the kitchen with an ornate knife.

"Hey," she smiled warmly as she approached him. She was tan with curly blonde hair and attractive in Joel's eyes. "It's pretty much over, here," she shrugged and gestured at the few individuals lying around with her dagger. "The party moved on to the Omega house, if you know where that is." As she explained, another woman, in all black, came out of the kitchen with a golden-hilted dagger.

In his defense, Joel was accidentally cornered against a wall by two women with knives. It was dark, people were unconscious, and he panicked.

"Is this a cult?" he asked with wide eyes.

"No..?" the first woman answered as she hid the dagger behind her back.

"No, not at all. Why do you ask?" the second woman, pale with brunette hair, answered. She was already empty-handed with the blade nowhere to be seen.

"You're kind of dressed like cult members...," he pointed out the obvious while flitting his eyes to the door.

"Well, yeah," the brunette woman answered.

"WE are cult members," the blonde giggled and gestured at the brunette and herself. "We're on our way to a meeting, but the entire sorority isn't a cult."

"What?" Joel asked. "Isn't that the whole thing? Insisting on membership?"

"Holy rude assumptions," the brunette commented, and both women laughed. They moved toward the door with a polite wave. "The Cult of Ballisea is too exclusive to admit just anyone."

"And, you're a guy," the blonde said as she opened the door. The brunette stepped out first, and the blonde followed. "You're not even eligible to join."
