THE MOMENT

"So, what's your Class?" Miles knew the question would come up at some point; it was a blind date. But, he'd been enjoying her company so much that his status temporarily slipped his mind. He'd never been particularly embarrassed by his decision to not choose, but at that moment, he very much still wanted to impress his new friend, Lori. Still, it wasn't like him to lie, and he wouldn't even know where to begin a fabrication.

Lori had been chatty and already revealed her Class and Specialization. She chose Wizard at five and decided to keep it at 10, and at age 20, she chose her Specialization of Storm Wizard. There were only two choices to make, but the decision at five years old was more to orient the child in the world of Classes. They could change their mind at 10 to try out at a different Class, and at 20, they needed to make both decisions final.

"I never picked..," Miles shook his head, but he maintained eye contact. She had gorgeous blue eyes, and he wanted to admire them as long as he could, just in case she was about to leave. However, he noticed a sudden sparkle that he didn't expect, and she seemed to subtly sit forward, closer.

"Really? Why not?" she asked.

"I couldn't tell you much about my first one," he shook his head. "And, at 10 and 20... I had personal reasons not to," he said. He wasn't trying to dodge the question; he did have a very private incentive not to. And, since she seemed interested, a small part of him hoped that one day he'd get to share them with her. But that wasn't the kind of hope to reveal on the first date.

"Alright, well, we don't need to talk about anything you're not ready to share," Lori smiled. "I've got some extended family who didn't choose anything either," she shrugged, and smiled at him. "Even though everyone can select a Class, it's always more interesting to meet someone doing their own thing."
