THE MOMENT

"A witch?" Statick was reaching into the drawer of his desk, but the request was so surprising he had to stop what he was doing and focus on Davina. She'd visited him for some guidance since she was ready to start a major step forward as a knight. "Yes, I suppose you could. Still, as your advisor and a fellow knight, I'm curious why you'd swear fealty to a witch instead of the typical lord or king," he said. Once he was able to get beyond his confusion to get the question out, he finished his original action and withdrew a red-tinted translucent node. It was a thin glass card in a sharp red color that almost looked like cinnamon candy, and he presented it to Davina.

"I don't need the land or gold or anything," the teen with dark hair and purple eyes shrugged. "But, runes of power on my armor and potions of strength would be more useful. And, I know those are common enough that I could buy them with the money. But, Princess is my favorite Spec, and with that, I can learn how to craft them myself from a witch. So, it's to help the team too," she nodded.

"I know your favorite build, it's in the records," Statick chuckled as he nodded. "I guess that's why I was confused. You've put some thought into it, but I think not enough. That's why I'm here," he grinned.

"This school, and all the kingdoms listed on that node...," he nodded at the glass card in Davina's hand. "...are all run by Sharp Development. You touched on it briefly when you mentioned you could direct your earnings toward buying those types of enhancements. But you still missed part of the bigger picture. If witches exist, would you not assume any King worth their crown to enlist magical aid? Whether it be a royal magus, or royal hag," his eyes danced to the card one more time. "... even though all of those Kingdoms meet minimum Sharp standards, you can bet most Kings would have access to magic."

"Ohh...," Davina nodded as she processed the new information. "...wow, that's great actually," she giggled. There was a lot more to her decision than Statick needed to know. It was in part due to her twin sister's decision, but with this new knowledge, that decision could be changed too. "I really didn't know. I don't want to feel like I wasted your time, but can I take this and look at my options?" She wanted to see the options with her sister.

"Well, it's either you do that and stop wasting my time, or you sit there browsing the list in front of me and waste both our time," Statick chuckled with a nod. Then he pulled out another red node and offered it to her. "Karin's a knight too, right. It'd be saving me a step if you gave this to her. That way, whenever she's ready to swear fealty to a King, we can move quickly." Davina nodded and eagerly accepted the second card. It was at that moment she realized Statick had seen right through her, and yet, neither of them had to acknowledge it.

Karin had a reputation for being antisocial among the students, and she never realized the staff would pick up on it too. And instead of drawing any attention to it, Statick simply made things easier for her.

"Thank you!" Davina held the cards and stood to leave. "I'll tell her!"
