THE MOMENT
"YOU DID WHAT!?" Ruby roared at Oren. On any other day, she would never even think of raising her voice at Ballisea's son. But the wedding was finally in full swing and Ruby's patience was gone. It was an extremely important day for her sister and so equally important to her. And now, it might have just gotten worse.
Oren managed to look apologetic for his part. If nothing else, he wanted the wedding to go smoothly too; he certainly didn't want people yelling at him.
"The rings are Voidsteel," he shrugged. "I can't lift them."
"I didn't ask you to lift them...," Ruby said. Her voice was calmer now. "I asked you to keep an eye on them. Where they were." Oren looked around the small, open room again. It resembled a foyer with a table against one wall. A large painting of the loving couple hung over the table but the tabletop itself was distinctly bare.
"It didn't seem safe," he said. "Anyone can just walk through here." Ruby let out a sigh and she shook her head.
"And how many of those unknown strangers would have been able to lift them like you couldn't?" she asked.
"Ohh...," Oren's eyes clouded and he focused on the tile pattern on the ground. He hadn't considered that detail. He was so eager to do a good job that he sent the rings through a portal to somewhere else. The other thing that he did not realize at the time was that Voidsteel was magic resistant. In practice that meant armor or jewelry made from Voidsteel gave protection from magic. But, it also meant that he couldn't summon the rings through a portal again. It was easier when he was looking at them; but, now that he had no idea where they were, they did not appear when he needed them.
"We're going to need the rings soon," a new voice spoke up. A tall, muscular, purple-haired woman joined them.
"Majesty! You have to stall!" Ruby said quickly.
"Why....?" Majesty asked.
"I-," Oren began taking the blame, but Ruby interrupted him.
"It's just a minor setback," Ruby said. She grabbed Oren's hand and led him out of the room.
"Where are you going?" Majesty asked.
"To ask someone for a favor..," Ruby said.
